C1 Writing Exam Task – Conference Essay on Environmental Protection

C1 Writing Exam Task – Conference Essay on Environmental Protection

Part 1 – Writing an Essay (220–260 words)

Task

You recently attended a conference about ways to protect the environment in your town.

During the event, several speakers expressed different opinions about possible solutions, including alternative energy sources, buying local produce, and recycling.

You have been asked to write an esssay for your local council summarising the main points discussed and evaluating which measures would be most effective.

Your Report Should:

  • Summarise the main ideas presented at the conference
  • Include the following opinions expressed by the speakers:
    • alternative energy sources
One speaker argued that investing in alternative energy sources is the most effective solution, as it tackles environmental problems at their source.
    • buying local produce
Another participant suggested that, while beneficial, buying local produce has a relatively limited impact compared to larger-scale environmental measures.
    • recycling
A further speaker claimed that although recycling is important, it is less effective because it does not reduce the amount of waste produced initially.
  • Evaluate which measure would be the most effective for your town

  • Write your answer in 220–260 words
  • Use a formal style appropriate for an essay
  • Organise your ideas clearly (you may use headings)
